EMPIRE PORT

MIT | 2011

Empire Port was a week-long speculative design workshop that explored a new form of infrastructure for Manhattan in response to the observation that Manhattan is now singularly served by one mode of materials distribution - the truck. Empire Port proposes a new short sea shipping infrastructure which would reduce the dependence on truck deliveries from Port Newark while creating new recreation landscapes and ecological benefits through adaptations to existing architecture.
